Kinetic type - Final idea
My final idea is to take quotes from “the people vs” videos but instead of just using the quote, like i did in my previous experiment, I have incorporated the text on top of imagery of the person who said it. I wanted all the gifs to be in black ad white so they look cohesive when placed together. I want to make nine of them in total so I can create a 3X3 grid out of them. I’ve also used similar symbols and shapes within the gifs so they clearly look like part of a collection. However, I haven’t repeated the exact sequence as i want the gifs to stand alone as well as together

Genetic type - gif
My idea is to take quotes from noisey’s videos “the people VS”. In these videos famous rappers have to read out youtube comments to their videos, these comments are usually hateful. I want to animate, in GIF form, how the rappers confront these anonymous comments. The two GIFs above are a response said by Post Malone
Although i really like the posters i made for ISTD visually I’ve come to a bit of a dead end with them and don’t know where to take them next. After stepping away from this project for a bit I’ve realised I want to focus more on the actually language on the signs and the handwriting used, rather than the visual aspect of them. I came up with the idea of creating a typology style poster of all the different styles pound signs and maybe looking at other letters, numbers or even creating an alphabet using my photographs. I think these posters could make a really nice series printed onto different coloured neon paper to bring the visual aspect back into it.

ISTD - Posters
I created 3 A1 sized posters inspired by the star signs found in corner shops. I hand drew a star stencil with card and spray painted 3 coloured stars as the base. For the type i used stencils created from photographs i had taken and screen printed them onto spray paint. I like how neither the spray paint or screen print is perfect as this adds to the cheap effect of the original signs. Im probably going to fold these in half to try and mimic the magazine and book I was researching for this project.

research :
“Male Chav: Sportswear - the bigger the brand name, the better. Mr Chav would never dream of wearing his Burberry cap at a jaunty angle. He uses the peak to hide his identity, as though he is about to mug you.
Female Chav: When not wearing her baseball cap - badly-dyed hair scraped back into the tightest bun possible.”
“Prada, Moschino, Evisu. Reebok Classics. JD Sports. JD & Coke. UK Garage. Charlie Chans, Opera House, Eros. Dealers in Beemers. Dressing up to go out. At the time it was hardly recognised, never mind celebrated, outside of itself. Rude Boys, Chavs, Lager Louts, Hoodies – labels were thought up to demonise young men who carried on the traditions of those born into similar circumstances before them. From neglected urban jungles to decaying seaside towns, association with these types could destroy a fashion brand’s credibility (and in the case of Burberry it almost did)”
“This culture was once considered to be the iconography of what papers at the time would politely call “scum.” Associated mostly with the working-class north of England and born of a longing for acceptance via the medium of very nice Adidas Trabs, you were considered the enemy if you so much as had the temerity to dress like one of them. And now it’s been reduced to not much more than a vertical in the Urban Outfitters online store.”
“ flashy shit with big logos and all that.”
“Reebok classics, an Adidas tracksuit with a Champion jumper and a Nike TN hat”
“Somewhere and somehow the borderlines between being a chav and being cool have become blurred. Chav culture, the culture that comes with an unruly amount of bad press is now seeping across the UK wearing Versace glasses, a Moschino shirt and shell-toe Adidas.”
“What I’m saying is this isn’t really a fad, its almost a uniform. Young people are in this world together and are going to have to walk arm in arm through the shitty swamp that is british society, at least do it looking like a straight up, mother fucking G.”

Create a body of work that visually explores what it means to be part of a subculture. You can celebrate an existing subculture (you may already be part of one) or you can start your own. Your final outcome should re ect your chosen subculture. This can be a book, documentary lm, set of posters, animation, magazine or series of photographs.
My ideas:
- Skateboarding - focusing on skateboard graphics looking at how to ware and scratch from use. Or looking at skateboards scars and bruises from missing skate tricks paying attention to their hands and seeing how they are effected.
- Slam poetry - inspired by a basquiat piece I was thinking of looking into slam poetry and scanning in note book pages from people who write poetry, picking out key words to emphasise and focusing on how their hand writing chases from person to person and how it is effected by their moods.
- Graffiti artist - looking at the way paint layers on the artist hands and clothes rather than the actual art work or tags. Maybe even looking out how the person hides their identity.
- CHAVs - taking chav fashion and using it to inspire a more up to date and on trend look book. Focusing on brands such as burberry, adidas, lonsdale, nike etc. and styling tracksuits, puffa jackets and caps.

Sabat 4: Elements - 5 posters and unbound booklet | A3 (29,7x42cm)
This large magazine is created out of 5 posters and text sheets held together with an elasticated band. This method of non-binding could work really well with my ISTD idea to collate loads of different pieces of work I’ve done inspired by the signage found in corner shops and markets. Just like the pentagram manhole book, I like how the crops of each poster mismatched together create a whole new piece of art. By using this technique it allows the reader to have a series of posters as well as a book.
